SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships at Landmerk

For more than ten years, Stichting Landmerk has been dedicated to offering education that focuses on deep reflection on life’s big questions and the formation of character and intellect to young people. Since 2024, the foundation has taken on a second mission: awarding scholarships to outstanding students who wish to pursue Landmerk-style education at institutions other than Landmerk itself. We offer scholarships for exceptional students who want to take additional courses in the liberal arts, particularly courses based on canonical texts addressing the great questions (the “great books“). These may include studies in philosophy, rhetoric, history, law, literature, or any other field in which the fundamental questions of human existence, life, and society are explored. This education may also take place at institutions abroad.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

The scholarship is intended for outstanding bachelor’s and master’s students who have a lasting connection with the Netherlands (through nationality, residence, or studies) and/or for students who wish to take a course at a Dutch educational institution. You do not need to be enrolled as a full-time student at a college or university. Because you wish to take a course for which you are applying for a scholarship, we consider you a student.

In 2025, there is only one round in which you can apply for a scholarship. In 2026, there will be three rounds. The deadlines are as follows (all at 11:59 PM):

  • December 1, 2025
  • May 1, 2026
  • July 1, 2026
  • December 1, 2026

The application period opens one month before each deadline. After the deadline has passed, no applications can be submitted.

Scholarships are awarded for courses that have not yet started, or, in exceptional cases, for courses that have already begun at the time of the award, but for which the (first) payment has ideally not yet been made. Scholarships are not awarded for courses that have already been completed.

The amount of the scholarship depends on the financial support needed. This is determined by the selection committee based on the information and motivation you provide, possibly supplemented by a phone interview with you. In principle, scholarships are awarded for 50%, 75%, 90%, or 100% of the tuition fee. Scholarships covering 100% of the tuition fee are granted only in exceptional cases. In special circumstances, the selection committee may deviate from the percentages above.

No, the board’s decision is final.

The selection committee can be reached by email only: [email protected].

No, you can only apply for a scholarship through the form on this website.

Yes, that is possible. In this case, the applicant does not receive money directly, but rather a (full or partial) waiver of the tuition fee. You do not submit this application through the form on this webpage, but through the regular registration form for the respective course. There, under the section “Type aanmelding,” you should check the box “Aanmelding met beursaanvraag.”

The scholarship is granted as a conditional grant. The condition for converting it into a unconditional grant is that the applicant provides proof of payment showing that the tuition fee has been paid to the educational institution. If this condition is not met, Stichting Landmerk may request that the student repay the scholarship and, if this is not done, hold them liable.

We first recommend opening the webpage in a different browser and then filling out and submitting the form again. Also, please carefully check that a) you have only uploaded PDFs, and b) each PDF does not exceed the maximum file size of 30 MB.

If you still cannot submit a scholarship application, please contact us at [email protected].
